Notably, though, this isn’t a normal Snorlax. While the Pokemon can be found in the wild and hatched from eggs in Pokemon GO, this research breakthrough Snorlax comes equipped with Body Slam, a move that was removed even after a significant nerf. A Body Slam Snorlax is one of the best Gym defenders in the game, so hopefully, not many players will be upset that it isn’t a legendary.

Body Slam deals 50 damage per charge, has a cooldown of only 1.9 seconds, and activates much faster than Hyper Beam. Because of its frequent activation, it’s much harder for a Pokemon to dodge and only deals reduced damage to Ghost-, Rock-, and Steel-type Pokemon. Moreover, it seems plausible that a shiny Body Slam Snorlax could be obtainable.

However, it is unknown at the time of this writing if a shiny Body Slam Snorlax is a potential breakthrough reward, but Snorlax’s shiny variant was added to the game a few weeks ago alongside the remaining Kanto-region Pokemon without shiny versions. While Research breakthroughs have yet to be an avenue to obtain a shiny pokemon, it’ll be interesting to see if Snorlax is the first.

Nevertheless, as powerful as a Body Slam Snorlax is, players need to remember that a Research breakthrough is level 15, so players will need a ton of candies and stardust to power up the defensive Normal-type Pokemon. One way players may consider obtaining the required number of candies is the newly implemented trading feature.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
