Rival’s Week is focused on the legends that arise from fierce rivalries. Rivalries have always been a theme of Pokemon games, with every protagonist in the main-series having a rival throughout their story. The Rival’s Week event brings a variety of changes, including two new Pokemon, increased spawns for certain Pokemon in Raids and the Wild, and a new set of Field Research tasks.

Catching the Fighters
There are five new Field Research tasks in Pokemon GO’s themed event, of varying levels of challenge:
Catch 3 Fighting-type Pokemon
The first task is fairly straightforward, particularly as Rival’s Week has increased the spawn-rate for several different Fighting Pokemon. The reward for completing this task is 3 Super Potions, 2 Hyper Potions, and a Revive.
Catch 6 Fighting-type Pokemon
As an extension of the first task, the second task should also be quite easy to complete. The reward for this one is much better, guaranteeing players an encounter with one of Gen-1’s Fighting Pokemon, either Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan.
Catch 15 Fighting-type Pokemon
The final extension of this line of tasks requires twice as many catches as the second task, but still shouldn’t be too tricky. Of the three, this is the one that will require players to put in some serious time during Rival’s Week. As a reward, players will get an encounter with either Seviper or Zangoose, the snake and mongoose Pokemon from the Hoenn region.
Winning the Rivalry
The final two tasks for the Rival’s Week Field Research focus on battling rather than catching, but aren’t too difficult for players to complete:
Win a Raid
This straightforward challenge can be completed by visiting a Raid location or accessing one remotely. Players should make sure they’ve got the best type match-up possible, and maybe recruit some Pokemon GO friends, to ensure that they get the win. As a reward they’ll get an encounter with either Skrelp or Clauncher, the two new Pokemon for Rival’s Week.
Win in the GO Battle League
To complete the final Field Research task during Rival’s Week players will need to win a fight in the GO Battle League. This is only available to Trainers who are past level 10, and players will need to defeat another player’s Pokemon to win. As a reward, players will receive 20 Lopunny Mega Energy, 10% of the amount needed to Mega-Evolve Lopunny.
