In a very unusual move, one of the official Pokemon GO twitter accounts seems to have confirmed that there will not be a shiny Rayquaza released during this weekend’s events. Usually shiny launches come as a surprise anyway, so it seems extra strange that the company would go out of its way to temper expectations before the event kicks off.

According to a translation, the tweet includes a line that roughly states: “Shiny Rayquaza will not appear in this event.” The jet black variant of the Flying- Dragon-type is incredibly popular, so, as readers might expect, lots of trainers are feeling very deflated after hearing the news.

Players have been quick to point out that this could be misdirection to try and maintain an element of surprise. If that’s the case, it seems like a very strange choice to acknowledge the shiny at all, rather than to just not say anything about it.

On the other side of the argument, some trainers have also pointed out that this raiding weekend is a bit different from the usual raiding events that coincided with the release of prior shiny legendaries. Those raiding events were usually three hours long and included five free raid passes. This is a different sort of event all together.

Either way, the weekend should still provide the opportunity for plenty of fun raiding. Be sure to check back for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates in the coming days. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
