Pokemon GO product manager Matt Slemon was recently interviewed by a German publication, and during the chat the idea of raising that max level came up. According to the interview, level 40 players shouldn’t expect any kind of increased level cap in the near future…

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise, but as Niantic continues to push out tons of major updates for the game, like the upcoming PvP battles, it makes sense that the community is looking towards the future. The fact that levels after 30 don’t hold much meaning, aside from bragging rights and a day or so early access to some new features, does seem like an indication that the leveling system should be reworked at some point in the future. For now at least, it seems like Niantic is probably more interested in changes that impact the majority of players, most of whom are still well below level 40.

Be sure to check back often over the next few days as more details about the upcoming PvP features are released and new strategies emerge. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is currently available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
