Any time a new raid boss appears, that means heading back to the collection and forming a new counter roster that can best exploit the challenger’s type. When it comes to preparing for Mega Alakazam Battle Raids in Pokemon GO, that is going to be keeping its pure Psychic-type trait in mind and bringing some powerful Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type moves into the fight for the most effective DPS strategy.

A Mega Raid boss can definitely be defeated without the proper counter roster if players enter with a big group and rely on their friends to do the most damage, but there are some downsides to being under prepared. Trainers who deal the most damage in a Battle Raid are going to be rewarded with additional Premier Balls, which means they have a better chance to catch the encounter reward at the end. This means that it may be worth it to spend some Mega Energy and Elite TMs ahead of the fight to get the best counter roster available lined up for the big battle.

Mega Alakazam Weaknesses

This boss is a pure Psychic-type, which means that Mega Alakazam is weak to Bug-, Dark-, and, Ghost-type moves.

Best Mega Alakazam Counters

Gengar (Mega) - Lick/Shadow Ball Houndoom (Mega) - Snarl/Foul Play Absol (Mega) - Snarl/Payback Gyarados (Mega) - Bite/Crunch Beedrill (Mega) - Bug Bite/X-Scissor Scizor (Mega) - Fury Cutter/X-Scissor Hydreigon - Bite/Brutal Swing Charizard (Mega Y) - Fire Spin/Blast Burn Latios (Mega) - Dragon Breath/Dragon Claw Giratina (Origin) - Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball Darkrai - Snarl/Shadow Ball Blastoise (Mega) - Bite/Hydro Cannon Lopunny (Mega) - Pound/Hyper Beam Hoopa (Unbound) - Astonish/Shadow Ball Chandelure - Hex/Shadow Ball

As always, trainers don’t need to have the exact top tier counter roster listed here to successfully survive this Battle Raid. The most important thing is to enter the battle with a solid strategy and stick to exploiting Mega Alakazam’s weaknesses. That means fielding a roster that includes the best Dark-, Ghost-, and Bug-type Pokemon and moves available in each player’s collection. It’s fine if players don’t have the Mega Energy required for many of the top tier counters listed here, just stick to the proper type counters and enter the fight with at least four or five friends.
