Unlike past raid days, which featured legendary Pokemon, Gengar is only a tier 4 raid boss. This means that he should be a little easier to take down, but again, it doesn’t hurt to have the best team possible before facing him. It’s also a good idea to do these raids with as many people as possible, though it is technically doable with just two trainers with the right Pokemon team at their disposal.

Here are the best Gengar counters in Pokemon GO:

Alakazam - Confusion/Future Sight Espeon - Confusion/Future Sight Gardevoir - Confusion/Shadow Ball Gengar - Shadow Claw or Hex/Shadow Ball Metagross - Zen Headbutt/Meteor Mash Mewtwo - Confusion/Shadow Ball or Psychic Tyranitar - Bite/Crunch

The best counter for Gengar is the legendary Pokemon Mewtwo, which should be able to deal a significant amount of damage in a short amount of time. The other Pokemon on the list are also viable options. Anyone that participated in the recent Beldum Community Day event should be able to put their Meteor Mash Metagross to good use, as it’s a great choice to take down Gengar.

Besides the Pokemon listed here, Pokemon GO Hub also recommends Groudon and Lugia as potential back-ups. Lugia’s high defense makes it good for players who don’t have many potions to heal their Pokemon with, whereas Groudon will be effective to use in sunny weather conditions.

After putting together a proper raid group, Pokemon GO players should be able to take out Gengar with relative ease when it’s added to raids later today. Players should also keep in mind that they will get five free raid passes to participate in today’s activities, and that there is a chance to catch a shiny Gengar as well.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
