Pokemon in Pokemon GO have different spawn rates depending on the environment they’re in, like real animals. However, it isn’t currently known which environments that steel-type Pokemon seem to prefer. However, players don’t have to worry too much to complete their tasks.

During the Sinnoh Throwback Challenge Event, the rock/steel-type Pokemon Shieldon’s spawn rate will go up, making it the easiest possible encounter to quickly deal with the challenge. Players should note that they will need to keep an eye out for Sinnoh Pokemon and shouldn’t expect many Pokemon from other regions other than Pikachu while hunting. If Shieldon refuses to spawn for whatever reason, there are still other options.
Other options include catching Bronzor during the Bronzor Spotlight Hour on Tuesday, May 26th. Every trainer can catch Bronzors during this mini-event, event those who aren’t doing the challenges for the main event. Players can additionally encounter Beldum, Metagross, and Skarmory as Great Battle League reward encounters during this current season. Normal research tasks obtained from Pokestops can also yield encounters with steel-type Pokemon available for catching.
For trainers still participating in raids, Klink can be caught in Tier 1 raids, Bastiodon can be caught in Tier 3 raids, and Bronzong can be caught in Tier 4 raids. Team Rocket grunt battles can also result in the chance to catch a steel-type Pokemon, depending on the grunt.
Players who also own a Nintendo Switch as well as a copy of Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee or Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu can additionally catch Meltan via the Mystery Box.
