As with the rest of the Season of Alola’s events, the Water Festival 2022 intends to introduce some new Alolan Pokemon to Pokemon GO’s ranks. The Water/Bug Pokemon Dewpider and Araquanid will both make their debuts during the event. There will also be special Pokemon variants afoot; lucky fans might get encounters with a Lapras wearing a scarf, as well as the newly introduced Shiny Binacle. Aside from these debuts, the Water Festival will feature a lot of additional Water-type Pokemon encounters, as well as challenges and bonuses that emphasize the theme of water and the Alola region.

The Water Festival’s Featured Pokemon
The Water Festival boasts a particularly long list of Pokemon who will appear more frequently in the wild. The following monsters will see an increased presence in Pokemon GO: Tentacool, Lotad, Slowpoke, Surskit, Goldeen, Carvanha, Staryu, Wailmer, Magikarp, Tympole, Marill, Binacle, and Dewpider, with smaller chances for Poliwhirl, Mantine, and Alomomola encounters. 7km Eggs also have a modified list of Water-type Pokemon, but with notable differences; they’ll spawn Psyduck, Azurill, Mantyke, Mudkip, Feebas, Binacle, Staryu, and Clamperl during the event. Pokemon GO is no stranger to type-centric events, but the Water Festival still has an impressive quantity of featured Pokemon.
Field Research tasks and Raids will have modified lists of Pokemon too. One-Star Raids will feature Qwilfish, Wailmer, Spritzee, Helioptile, and Rockruff, while Three-Star Raids include Ludicolo, Alolan Raichu, Azumarill, Feraligatr, and Lapras with a scarf. Tapu Fini and Mega Blastoise will populate the Water Festival’s Five-Star Raids and Mega Raids respectively. As for Field Research Tasks, the following Pokemon will appear for diligent Pokemon GO fans: Magikarp, Carvanha, Wailmer, Luvdisc, Binacle, and Dewpider, with rarer odds of Lapras in a scarf or Marill. Field Research tasks may offer Mega Energy for Blastoise and Gyarados as well, which will help fans take advantage of Pokemon GO’s changing Mega Evolution system.

Pokemon GO’s Water Festival Bonuses
For the duration of the Water Festival, Pokemon GO players will also benefit from double Candy from Egg hatches, bonus XL Candy from Eggs, and Rainy Lure Modules lasting two hours. What’s more, the Water Festival features a Pokemon GO Global Challenge: if players worldwide can catch 600,000,000 Water-types before the event’s end, they’ll earn twice as much Candy from catches for the rest of the Water Festival. On top of that, the Water Festival adds a Water Festival Scarf to the in-game cosmetic shop and features Timed Research that’ll supply XP, Stardust, Gyarados Mega Energy, and encounters with Dewpider and Lapras.
Pokemon GO added the Poni Island Special Research just before the Water Festival, meaning fans already have a good reason to play Pokemon GO over the course of the festival. Nevertheless, the opportunity to collect new Pokemon over the course of the Water Festival is exciting. There’s no word yet on what Pokemon GO season will follow the Season of Alola, and it may be far less heavy on Pokemon additions than Alola, so fans will have to enjoy Dewpider and Araquanid’s addition while it lasts. All in all, the Water Festival looks like a prime opportunity to gather some Water-types, especially for players who have limited access to them otherwise.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
