As a pure Ground-typing, most of Marowak’s moves in Pokemon GO are Ground-type. It may lack the flexibility other Pokemon have in their GO “move learnset,” but it can still manage to pull its weight in raids and PVP. The following guide details important information regarding Marowak and, to an extent, Cubone in GO.
How To Get Marowak In Pokemon GO
There are a few ways of getting Marowak in Pokemon GO. Players can either catch it in the wild during Sunny Weather by using the Live Radar/Find Pokemon Nearby, or they can look for a Cubone instead. To access the Live Radar, tap the bar in the lower-right corner of the overworld map. If Marowak is hanging around nearby Poke Stops, players will see its silhouette (if not caught)/model (if caught) on the radar. From the Live Radar, select Marowak and then tap the footprint icon to track one.
Cubone recently had an increased chance of appearing in the wild during the Dia de Muertos 2022 event. To evolve Cubone into Marowak, players need to use 50 Cubone Candy. Using Pinap Berries when catching Cubone is the quickest way to get Cubone Candy.
The other way to get Cubone or Marowak is during Raids. They’re more likely to appear as Raid Pokemon if there’s an in-game Event for Pokemon GO.
Understanding Marowak’s Typing & Moves

In mainline Pokemon games, Ground-type Marowak cannot be damaged by Electric-type moves. Since Pokemon GO calculates damage differently, Marowak will take half damage from Electric-type attacks. Additionally, Marowak’s Ground-typing means its Ground-type moves won’t inflict damage on Flying-type Pokemon in most other Pokemon games.
In GO, Marowak’s Ground-type moves will inflict half damage on Pokemon of the Flying-type. Marowak can have any of the following moves upon evolving from Cubone in Pokemon GO:
Best Moves For Marowak
Marowak’s two Quick Moves are Rock Smash (Fighting-type) and Mud-Slap (Ground-type). Players that aren’t satisfied with their Marowak’s Quick Move can use a Fast TM to change it. Between the two, Mud-Slap is the better option. It deals 18/11 damage compared to Rock Smash’s 15/9 (Gyms/Raids and PVP respectively), and it generates more EPS. Having Rock Smash as Marowak’s Quick Move, however, guarantees super-effective damage to several Pokemon Typings.
All of Marowak’s Charge Moves except for Rock Slide are Ground-type. The best move here is Earthquake (Ground-type). It deals 140/125 (Gym/Raids and PVP) damage and has the highest DPS. The next best Charge Move is Dig (Ground-type) thanks to its 100 damage. It has half the DPS as Earthquake, but it’s a good substitute.
Marowak’s other Charge Move, Bone Club, is arguably its worst Charge Move with a 40 Damage. However, it does give Marowak STAB and is okay to have for players looking to have a Marowak with at least one Ground-type move in their moveset. Any time players want to change Marowak’s Charge Moves, they can do so with a Charge TM or Elite TM.
