This week offers players another shot at Mega Pidgeot. This is a Mega boss that has been in the spotlight quite a few times at this point, but thanks to new Pokemon evolutions and move set releases, it’s not a bad idea for new and veteran Pokemon GO Battle Raid enthusiasts to revisit their counter roster before heading into the big fight.

Mega Pidgeot will only be around to battle until July 22 (at which point Mega Gengar will take over), so players should try to get these battles in today or very early tomorrow if they want a chance to prove themselves. Trainers preparing for the battle will need to remember that Mega Pidgeot is weak to Rock- and Electric-type Pokemon. Be sure to avoid Grass-, Bug-, and Fighting-types, since they are all weak to Pidgeot’s Normal/Flying pairing.
Best Pidgeot (Mega) Counters (July 2022)
Xurkitree - Spark/Discharge Zekrom - Charge Beam/Wild Charge Thundurus - Volt Switch/Thunderbolt Rhyperior - Smack Down/Rock Wrecker Rampardos - Smack Down/Rock Slide Electivire - Thunder Shock/Wild Charge Raikou - Thunder Shock/Wild Charge Terrakion - Smack Down/Rock Slide Magnezone - Spark/Wild Charge Zapdos - Thunder Shock/Thunderbolt
This pairing of weaknesses should make it pretty easy for players to throw together a competitive counter roster (as long as they’re will spend some Elite TMs, Stardust, and Candy to help out). Even still, Mega Pidgeot can be pretty tough, so the average trainers are going to want to head into this battle with at least four friends.
Mega Raid rewards reminder: Keep in mind that Mega Pidgeot is not catchable at the end of this Battle Raid. Mega Pokemon have to be (temporarily) evolved by using the correct resources. Instead, completing Mega Raids is currently the primary way to earn Mega Energy and unlock the ability to Mega Evolve Pokemon.
The next big raid rotation is coming in just a day or two, so keep an eye out for Mega and Legendary changes heading into the weekend. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
