From Tuesday, June 7, 2022 through Thursday, June 16, 2022 Groudon will be taking over the Pokemon GO tier five Battle Raid slot. During that period of time trainers will have a chance to battle the popular Hoenn region Legendary and, if they’re lucky, possibly walk away with a shiny encounter before the week is over. Before the fun kicks off trainers will likely want to revisit their old Battle Raid counter rosters and make some updates based on the latest shifts in the meta game.

As a reminder, Groudon is a Ground-type Legendary Pokemon, which means trainers will want to build a roster full of powerful Water- and Grass-type Pokemon. Those are pretty popular counter types, which should give experiences raiders a lot of popular Pokemon and move sets to work with. Keep in mind that although Mega Evolutions are very powerful in countering Legendaries, it’s acceptable to build a counter roster without them, as well. Spending some Candy, Stardust, and TMs might be required for players who want to ensure they have the strongest roster available.

Best Groudon Counters (June 2022)

Venusaur (Mega) - Vine Whip/Frenzy Plant Blastoise (Mega) - Water Gun/Hydro Cannon Swampert - Water Gun/Hydro Cannon Kyogre - Waterfall/Surf Feraligatr - Water Gun/Hydro Cannon Abomasnow (Mega) - Powder Snow/Weather Ball Empoleon - Waterfall/Hydro Cannon Gyarados - Waterfall/Hydro Pump Tangrowth - Vine Whip/Power Whip Crawdaunt - Waterfall/Crabhammer Sceptile - Fury Cutter/Frenzy Plant Torterra - Razor Leaf/Frenzy Plant Gengar (Mega) - Lick/Shadow Ball Roserade - Razor Leaf/Grass Knot Charizard (Mega Y) - Fire Spin/Blast Burn

Trainers who don’t have the collection required to build a counter roster based on the suggestions above aren’t entirely out of luck. If that’s the case, just stick to the best Water- and Grass- type Pokemon available and be careful to enter the Battle Raid with enough other trainers to avoid defeat. Groudon has a lot of great uses in the current PoGO meta game, so taking the time to earn a few encounters should be well worth the effort for players that plan to raid a lot more in the near future.

The midpoint of June is fast approaching and players should learn more about what else the Season of Go has to offer once the July events and Battle Raids lists are published. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
