It’s been confirmed that Pokemon GO players will have the chance of getting Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos from Gen 1, as well as Entei, Raikou, and Suicune from Gen 2 on top of Ho-Oh and Lugia. The legendary birds and dogs were the December 2018 Field Research breakthrough rewards, and the theory that they would carry over into 2019 seems to have been proven correct.
Here are all the possible legendary Pokemon Pokemon GO players can get from Field Research breakthrough rewards in January 2019:
Articuno Entei Ho-Oh Lugia Moltres Raikou Suicuine Zapdos
It’s also been reported that Niantic has added shiny variants of Ho-Oh and Lugia to the Field Research breakthrough rewards, so players have a chance to snag them as well. This may make the January 2019 Field Research breakthrough rewards a little more interesting for hardcore Pokemon GO players who regularly compete in raids, as they may have plenty of Ho-Ohs and Lugias, but they may have yet to add the shiny versions of the creatures to their collection.
The introduction of the January 2019 Field Research has seen some other changes as well. The Christmas-themed Field Research is on the way out, but a new Spinda form has been added to the regular Field Research rewards. To get Spinda, players will have to get a curved Great throw, which is a challenge that they can find in various PokeStops all over the world.
As for the future of Pokemon GO Field Research, it seems like February 2019 may very well mimic January 2019’s offerings. This would make sense considering that there’s eight possible Pokemon players can get out of the Field Research breakthrough box, plus January and February will likely be the least active months for Pokemon GO out of the entire year. Perhaps March 2019 will add some new Pokemon to the Field Research breakthrough rewards lineup, but fans will just have to wait and see.
Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
