Ditto is one such Pokemon, an amorphous purple blob able to take on any form it wants. This can make catching one a real challenge, as a common Pokemon that any player would pass by might actually be Ditto in disguise. Fortunately, in Pokemon GO the shy little fella can’t take the form of anything it wants, but rather a limited set of non-legendary Pokemon.

Where’s Ditto?

As you can see in the picture below, an infographic from Pokemon GO site Leekduck, there are currently 14 Pokemon that Ditto can disguise as. This is the latest count as of Pokemon GO’s 2019 Halloween update. and may change in the future as new potential disguises are added or old ones removed.

As you’d guess, these are all un-evolved forms, and not Shiny Pokemon. Seems that Ditto is smart enough to realize that players are going to be more likely to ignore the boring Pokemon, and chase the exciting ones. To make things even more difficult, players won’t know if they’ve got a Ditto or not until they’ve actually caught the Pokemon it’s disguised as, potentially leading to a lot of unnecessary catches as players trawl through the undergrowth.

What are the odds?

While Ditto can be found disguised as any of the common Pokemon above, the odds of actually running into one while battling these Pokemon are very low. Though the exact numbers are impossible to say, there are some experienced Pokemon GO players who say they’ve never even seen one.

Of course, this may be down to the mundane disguises that Ditto chooses to employ. Realistically, the only people to have any chance of running into it would be new and incredibly lucky players who are catching everything they see for the first time, or experienced players specifically trying to hunt Ditto down. Either way, it seems that Niantic may have a soft-spot for hidden things, with players already complaining that their Halloween Costume Raids are too difficult to find.

Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android devices.
