It was officially announced that the Pokémon GO 8-bit update will revert back to normal on April 7. The official website stated that the world may never know what “mysterious circumstances” made the game adapt the retro appearance, but nevertheless, some gamers may be happy to find it returned to its original state. With Latios and Latias joining the game’s raid roster today and Mareep’s community day coming up on April 15, players won’t have to worry about seeing these pocket monsters solely in their heavily pixelated form.

However, it is worth noting that this update wasn’t the only bit of tomfoolery related to the game for April Fools’ Day. Final Fantasy 14 also had some fun by revealing a fake mobile version that parodies Pokemon Go’s social aspect and grinding. Now that the holiday has passed, however, everything should slowly return to normal.

One thing, however, that players may seriously be wondering is if the 8-bit update will remain in some toggle-able form. Sadly, it doesn’t seem that way, as it would be a lot of work on the development team’s part. Considering the sprites come from the server, making a toggle would mean that every request would have to include which bit, so the server knows which to send. Still, there is no confirmation either way, so perhaps this will be a future feature, despite seeming very unlikely.

While the Pokémon GO community slowly returns to normal, there is a serious new feature known as research available for players. Here’s everything players need to know considering Field Research, which should remain long after the 8-bit sprites fade away. Good luck out there, Trainers and Researchers!

Pokémon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices.
