There are over 900 Pokemon available to catch, train and battle at the time of writing, and more likely to be revealed alongside the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which recently released some brand new gameplay footage. One fan though, decided to dial back the clock, creating a huge mural to the game’s Gen 1 Pokemon out of beads. Though the bead art does have color, which means its lacking the black and white sprites that made it to the original Pokemon Red & Blue, the beads did recreate the pixelated design used up until 3D models were introduced alongside the Gen 6 releases.

The art, which was posted to Reddit by user u/drepicgames, sees all 151 original Gen 1 Pokemon huddled together in a huge collage. Anyone with a keen eye is sure to enjoy the game of finding their favorite Pokemon within the mix, and there’s even the occasional shiny that can be discovered. According to the artist, each bead used to create the collage has a 2.6mm diameter, and each individual Pokemon made took about 2.5 hours to put together, leading to a total project time of around 375 hours.

Many responded with praise of the art, which turned the artist’s home gym into their own personal Pokemon gym from the games, or as close to one as possible without having actual Pokemon and a series of slightly irritating puzzles and ramping challenges. Commenters on the Reddit post were in awe of the work that had clearly gone into creating such a piece, with one writing “This is so impressive. I’m blown away by the detail. This gives me intense feelings of nostalgia and awe!”

Pokemon is a titan of Nintendo and gaming in general, and recently it has seen releases that have pleased returning fans and could introduce new ones to the series. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have sent fans back to the Sinnoh region, while Legends Arceus will give an entirely new, open-world experience which many fans are hoping will be similar to Breath of the Wild. So, alongside fans always creating new and impressive art, the Pokemon franchise is also delivering new content.
