Limited to Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Max Raids and Stadium battles, most of the in-game monsters can take Dynamax forms. This is unlike the limited selection players have seen with Mega Evolutions. When activated, the pocket monsters become supersized and gain up to 100% stat boost. Some Pokemon took this upgrade one step further, changing into a Gigantamax form which alters the monster’s appearance. Players were unable to see the process as Sword and Shield only shows the trainer throwing an enlarged Pokeball into the arena, rather than a full evolution.

A Redditor by the name of Its_Amio has decided to change this and has revealed their interpretation of Pikachu taking their Dynamax form outside the battle arena. The short, animated clip shows the series mascot transforming into the gigantic stance seen in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Showcasing a cute art style, Its_Amio has Pikachu taking on its new form in a puff of smoke before changing into the huge variant. The Dynamaxed Pokemon comes complete with a huge storm cloud on the monster’s tail representing a lightning strike. Its_Amio is receiving a lot of acclaim for their post. Many users are praising the art style and the cuteness of both Pikachu’s original and gigantic forms.
Since the original Pokemon Red and Green games released in 1996 for the Nintendo Game Boy, Pikachu has always been a staple monster in the Pokedex. The electric mouse has appeared in every game and by 1998 even had its own spin-off, Pokemon Yellow. This game had the pocket monster following the trainer on screen and was able to show how it was feeling toward the player. In Pokemon Sword and Shield, the series favorite can take both Dynamax and Gigantamax forms, with the latter throwing back to Pikachu’s original and more rounded appearance.
With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet currently in development for Nintendo Switch, players are currently waiting to see if Dynamax and Gigantimax battles will make a return. It is not yet confirmed if a previous battle mechanic will appear or if Game Freak are planning an entirely new gimmick.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will release in 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
