In a post on Reddit, a user known as ZanorinSeregris shared a picture of a Japanese ink painting they created based on the Pokemon series. Specifically, the creator had decided to paint the starter Pokemon from the upcoming Scarlet and Violet games, and the results were astonishing. By using this beautiful art style, the artist managed to reimagine the starters in a more realistic way. In the painting, the artist accentuated the design details of the animals each Pokemon was based on. For example, Sprigatito looked more cat-like, Fuecoco appeared more like a traditional crocodile, and Quaxly resembled a real-life duck.

On top of showing off this painting based on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, ZanorinSeregris provided some details on creating the stunning artwork. Based on comments from the artist, the first step in making the Japanese ink painting was to start with the lines. Once this was complete, they used watercolor to fill in the color for the picture. In addition to detailing the process, the artist revealed that the project was enjoyable, commenting that painting in this style was “very therapeutic/relaxing.”

Unsurprisingly, this breathtaking painting of the starters from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet piqued the interest of numerous members of the Pokemon community on Reddit. With over 15,800 upvotes in less than a day, many were impressed by the reimagined designs for the starters. Among the comments, many appreciated the amount of skill needed to make such a detailed painting. In addition, some liked the design so much that they wanted to start making Japanese ink paintings for themselves.

While this painting is impressive, it is far from the only artwork shown off by creative Pokemon fans in recent days. For example, another gamer made retro artwork for Fuecoco following his reveal several days ago. As fans wait for more news about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it seems likely that even more fan art based on the upcoming game will surface on Reddit.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are scheduled to release in late 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
