One fan of Pokemon was surprised when they entered a bus only to find what looked like a bunch of faces looking back at them. After sharing it with fellow fans on the internet, it seems that many are in agreement that these seats look remarkably like the Pokemon Diglett.

Diglett is, of course, a subterranean Pokemon that’s been around since Generation 1 of the games. The creature readily tunnels underground and is usually depicted as only partially peeking out from under the earth. While its Alolan Diglett counterpart and evolution has whiskers or hair coming out of its head, the traditional Diglett just has a rounded brown body, making it match the general shape of a bus seat pretty well.

The resemblance to the bus seats seen in the shared photo is quite surprising. The seats are a similar shade of brown to Diglett, and have a small pink cushion attached for a neckrest, around where Diglett’s nose should be. That might be enough on its own to notice a similarity, but the thin black straps above the pillow stand in for Diglett’s eyes, really completing the picture.

These seats don’t have any official connection to Pokemon and are extremely unlikely to be purposefully based off the appearance of Diglett. Even so, it’s hard to unsee the resemblance once it’s been spotted. Diglett and Dugtrio’s simplistic appearance makes it easier to find similarities between them and real-world objects, but there are also plenty of Pokemon that have been intentionally based off of real-world creatures, too.

The first instance of this bus being shared online was a couple years ago, so it’s unclear if this particular Japanese bus is still in service, or if the design has been altered at all. However, if tourists to Japan were hoping to find the Diglett bus and come up empty-handed, the Pokemon train is another option. While Diglett isn’t the focus on the Pokemon train, cute Pikachu-themed seats and other decorations can be found throughout the train cars. Pokemon has also popped up temporarily taking over trains with large advertisements for games like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with illustrations of pocket monsters on the walls and floors, so even those who can’t get to Japan may eventually see a Pokemon bus or train eventually.
