Togepi first made their debut in the first season of the Pokemon anime during an episode titled “Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon.” For gamers who need a refresher, this took place during Generation 1 in the Kanto Region, where Ash, Misty, and Brock participated in an archeological dig. At the end of the episode, Ash comes across a Pokemon Egg that contains what would eventually become Misty’s Pokemon Togepi. This brand-new Pokemon’s appearance marked the second time during the Kanto era that a Generation 2 Pokemon appeared, the first being Ho-Oh. This isn’t the first time we have seen a well-known Pokemon get a new look; another gamer recently created a new evolution for Dragonair.

With the spooky season of Halloween just around the corner, talented artist and Pokemon Fan GeekySAgirl took to Reddit to share their re-imagining of Togepi. The fan-art shows the cute Pokemon decked out in a pumpkin outfit with candy corn. One commenter inspired by the art said, “Now I’m imagining an regional Togepi line that’s ghost/fairy.” This recent fan creation isn’t the only sweet thing hitting online forums; another talented gamer made authentic-looking Magnemite cake pop treats. It won’t be the last time this month fans see more Halloween-themed Pokemon creations online; in the past, some have even carved all original 151 Pokemon into pumpkins.

Regarding Togepi, there are a couple of interesting facts regarding this specific Pokemon that gamers may not be aware of. This specific Generation 2 Pokemon appeared in a Generation 1 game, Hey You, Pikachu for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. This debut was a full year before the release of the Pokemon Gold and Silver Generation 2 games. Because Togepi is known to bring good or bad luck, it’s most likely based on the dokkaebi. According to Bulbapedia, the dokkabi is a Korean mythological goblin that functions similarly.

It’s not just new evolutions or costumes fans have created. The upcoming titles, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, recently revealed a new unique-looking Pokemon named Wiglett that has inspired a ton of funny memes online. One clear thing is that this massive fanbase, their love for the franchise, and how they show it, isn’t going away anytime soon.
