The Pokemon card in question, No. 3 Trainer, had sold for $60,000 on eBay before it went missing. The rare Japanese Promo features a holographic image of Mewtwo and was originally awarded for placing third in a 1999 Secret Super Battle tournament. For Magic fans who need a point of reference, that makes this card something like the equivalent to the Power Nine in terms of resale value.
After the auction closed on eBay, the card was lost in transit, on its way to its new home in New York. At this point, foul play is not suspected and all involved parties seem to be pointing the finger at the United States Postal Service or the New York Air Max Shop and Ship company.
At this point, the buyer and seller are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who has information about the location of the missing card. Hopefully, someone does the right thing and steps forward with some intel on the location of the missing item. If any readers have a lead on the location of the card, they can e-mail wpm@pokebeach.com and the message will be forwarded to the correct parties.
Be sure to check back in the coming days for updates on the missing card and for other Pokemon news, updates, and strategy guides. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield release November 15 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
