RELATED: Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: Which Starter Makes The Game Easier?

Fairy-type Pokemon make a great pairing for whichever starter Pokemon the player chooses. They are strong party members in many trainers’ Pokemon teams, and serve as great attackers for some of the more powerful opponents in the game, like Dragon-type Pokemon. Generation 4 has many Fairy-types for players to choose from, and with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’sinclusion of the Grand Underground, players’ chances of catching powerful Pokemon only increase.

10 Clefairy

Clefairy is the lower evolution of the Fairy-type Pokemon Clefable. Clefairy’s inclusion stems from its popularity in the franchise — it is even theorized to have been original mascot for the Pokemon series, due to its adorable appearance. Clefaiy’s stats are admirable for a lower evolution Pokemon, with decent Special Attack and Special Defense. It can easily hold its own until trainers are able to evolve it into Clefable.

Clefairy evolves from its baby form, Cleffa, and both Pokemon can be caught in Mt. Coronet or in the Trophy Garden. Cleffa will evolve into Clefairy with high friendship, and then into Clefable once players use a Moon Stone on it.

Clefairy’s Stats:

HP : 70 Attack : 45 Special Attack : 60 Defense : 48 Special Defense : 65 Speed : 35 Total : 323

9 Togetic

Togetic is the prior evolution to Togekiss, but it deserves recognition as one of the best Fairy-type Pokemon in its own right. For a lower evolution Pokemon, Togetic has great stats. With high Special Attack and even better Special Defense, Togetic is sure to be a tough opponent for any rival Pokemon, especially Dragon-type and Ground-type Pokemon — as it is immune to attacks of these types.

Togetic evolves from Togepi, which can be found in the Grand Underground or on Route 230 once players have access to the Poke Radar. Togepi will evolve into Togetic with high friendship, and Togekiss once players use a Shiny Stone.

Togetic’s Stats:

HP : 55 Attack : 40 Special Attack : 80 Defense : 85 Special Defense : 105 Speed : 40 Total : 405

8 Mawile (Brilliant Diamond Exclusive)

Mawile is a dual-type Steel and Fairy Pokemon, giving it a long list of resistances and few weaknesses. It is immune not only to Dragon-type attacks, but Poison-type moves as well, which are a weakness of Fairy-types. Its solid Attack and Defense stats also give it a good chance in battle, and its good move pool of Fairy, Steel, and Dark-type moves reinforces that.

Mawile does not evolve into or from any other Pokemon. It can be caught in the Grand Underground once players have the National Dex, and is only available in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond.

Mawile’s Stats:

HP : 50 Attack : 85 Special Attack : 55 Defense : 85 Special Defense : 55 Speed : 50 Total : 380

7 Azumarill

Azumarill is a defensive Pokemon at its core. Its high HP, Defense, and Special Defense can make this Water/Fairy type a tough battler in the early game. Azumarill is one of the easier Fairy-type Pokemon to obtain, and even has a lower evolution level than most other Pokemon.

Azumarill’s pre-evolutions ar Azurill and Marill, both of which can be found in Great Marsh and Trophy Garden. Azurill will evolve into Marill with high friendship, and into Azumarill at level 18.

Azumarill’s Stats:

HP : 100 Attack : 50 Special Attack : 60 Defense : 80 Special Defense : 80 Speed : 50 Total : 420

6 Wigglytuff

Wigglytuff is a Normal/Fairy dual-type Pokemon. While Wigglytuff doesn’t have great stats, it does have an admirable HP stat and double immunity to Dragon and Ghost-type, moves which comes in handy during battle.

Wigglytuff’s pre-evolution Jigglypuff, and its baby form Igglybuff, can both be found in Trophy Garden. Igglybuff will evolve into Jigglypuff with high friendship, and then into Wigglytuff with the Moon Stone.

Wigglytuff’s Stats:

HP : 140 Attack : 70 Special Attack : 85 Defense : 45 Special Defense : 50 Speed : 45 Total : 435

5 Granbull

Granbull is a sole Fairy-type Pokemon with an interesting move pool. Its available moves vary widely, including Fairy, Fire, Fighting, Dark, and even Dragon-type moves. Granbull’s Attack stat also makes it a real competitor in battle.

Granbull evolves from Snubbull, which can be caught in the Grand Underground once players have access to the National Dex. Snubbull is caught a bit too late in the game to be extremely useful to player, but is still worth catching to use while playing through post-game content. Snubbull will evolve into Granbull at level 23.

Granbull’s Stats:

HP : 90 Attack : 120 Special Attack : 60 Defense : 75 Special Defense : 60 Speed : 45 Total : 450

4 Mr. Mime

Mr. Mime is a Psychic/Fairy dual-type Pokemon that boasts great stats, especially its Special Attack Special Defense. Mr. Mime can be hindered by its lower base Attack and Defense stats, but it makes up for it with its powerful move pool of Psychic and Fairy-type moves.

Mr. Mime’s baby form, Mime Jr., can be found in Trophy Garden, Route 210, and Route 209. Mr. Mime itself can be found in the Grand Underground, as well as Route 218 and Route 222.

Its pre-evolution Clefairy is easy to obtain and is useful for most of the game, but Clefable’s stats are higher and it has access to more moves.

Clefable evolves from Clefairy, which evolves from its baby form, Cleffa. Clefairy and Cleffa can both be found in Mt. Coronet and Trophy Garden. Cleffa will evolve into Clefairy with high friendship, and into Clefable with the Moon Stone.

Clafable’s Stats:

HP : 95 Attack : 70 Special Attack : 95 Defense : 73 Special Defense : 90 Speed : 60 Total : 483

Togepi, Togekiss’ base evolution, can be found in the Grand Underground and also on Route 230 once players have access to the Poke Radar. Togepi will evolve into Togetic with high friendship, and into Togekiss using the Shiny Stone.
