Tumblr user Minuns recently posted a video of her reaching the end of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s Pokemon League. While the moment usually reserved for the difficult final battle with Cynthia, the scene was made hilarious glitch that completely changed the context of the scene.

Upon arriving in Cynthia’s room within the Pokemon League, Cynthia begins her usual pre-battle monologue. Strangely enough though, Minuns’s copy of the game experienced a glitch that allowed her trainer avatar to run around the room while Cynthia talked. She posted a video of this encounter which can be seen in its entirety here.
While Cynthia speaks, Minuns rapidly runs around the room and the champion herself. The various changing camera angles show this mini-marathon from many different perspectives before the game softlocks. According to Minuns in the original post’s tags, this caused her to have to reset the game in order to escape the softlock. This was likely caused by the game being unable to advance the dialogue to the next part while the player still had movement access. It can only be hoped that Minuns saved beforehand.
Minuns is confirmed to have successfully defeated Cynthia despite the funny softlock. She managed the fight with her own team entirely compromised of Skitty. With how difficult a fight Cynthia puts up for most players, this itself is its own feat and a sign of true dedication to the pink cat Pokemon.
As previously stated, this isn’t the only glitch discovered by players in the days after Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s release. These have ranged from graphical glitches to other errors resulting in players getting softlocked. It is unknown when these will be patched out and just how many more will be discovered in the coming weeks. While there are plenty of times glitches can make for funny moments, they do have the chance to undo hours of progress or completely ruin someone’s save file. If players find harmful glitches in their game copies, it is important to report them in order for proper action to be taken.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
