Arceus the Alpha Pokemon is one of the most important figures in the franchise’s lore. It is a Normal-type Mythical Pokemon that was introduced in Gen 4 and starred in the movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life, where it attempted to destroy the world after being unwittingly betrayed by humans. According to some legends found within the franchise, Arceus created the Sinnoh region and possibly the entire Pokemon world, making it one of the most powerful creatures in the series.

Twitter user Dogasu leaked a 45-second-long trailer for the anime miniseries that seems to shed some light on what fans can expect from it. The upcoming miniseries is reportedly called Pocket Monsters: The Arceus Who is Known as a God and appears to feature Arceus once again going on a rampage. Several other Legendary Pokemon are also shown in the trailer, including the lake guardians: Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf.

In the trailer, Pokemon Journeys protagonists Ash and Goh are shown teaming up with returning characters Brock and Dawn as a catastrophe appears to hit Sinnoh. Not only is Team Galactic apparently back in action, but an enormous burning Pokemon that bears a resemblance to Heatran begins scorching its way through the countryside. The result appears to be a disaster of cosmic proportions–exactly what fans might expect to grab the attention of Arceus. Additionally, Ash, Goh, and Dawn are all depicted running around in blue and red Hisuian-style outfits that draw on the aesthetics of traditional Japanese clothing.

Also featured in the trailer is the Sinnoh region Champion Cynthia, a character well known for being cool under pressure and opposing Team Galactic. Although she only appears for a few seconds, her presence suggests that the conflict of the miniseries will be truly dire. Pocket Monsters: The Arceus Who is Known as a God will reportedly be airing in four episodes, the first two of which will be shown in Japanese on Friday, January 21, followed by the last two on Friday, January 28. It remains to be seen when the miniseries will be released in English.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases for Nintendo Switch on January 28.
